During the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump’s way of convincing African American voters why they should mark Trump on the ballot was simply asking them “What the hell do you have to lose?”
The embarrassingly simplistic and demeaning question was immediately answered by many: “Only everything.”
That sentiment was turned into a civically-minded hip-hop anthem by The Philospher’s Stone, Gabriel “Asheru” Benn, Wayna and DJ Roddy Rood, titled “What Do We Have to Lose?”
The video compiles some of the most damning footage from the 2015 presidential primary and 2016 presidential election, where violence and protests at Trump rallies was a pretty common occurrence.
The video also shines a spotlight on the Black Lives Matter protest movement that took off between 2015 and 2016.
The song and video were made just before the November election, but now as President Trump wraps up his first month in office, the song is just as relevant now as it was in November.
