Since 1969, Virginia’s motto has always been “Virginia is for lovers.” It has become one of the most notorious travel slogans, created by Martin Agency.
In light of the recent events in Charlottesville Virginia, the agency updated the slogan to say “Virginia is for everyone.” The agency’s CEO, Matt Williams, said “We also know the violence we saw last weekend isn’t what that city or the state is about. ‘Virginia is for lovers’ has always been true, and it’s never been a more relevant message to send.”
The company also added #StandForLove to their social media to show the actions of the white supremacist rally does not reflect the state as a whole. The hashtag has already been adopted by Visit Virginia.
