This week, lawyers and executives from Facebook, Google and Twitter will be testifying to Congress. In the last few days, they have been grilled by lawmakers from both parties over the extent to which Russia flooded American social media walls with what amounts to Russian propaganda, disguised as patriotic political advertising.
We got a hold of 5 examples of Russian political ads yesterday, and then we explained how users could tell for themselves whether or not they are being targeted by Russian political ads.
Meanwhile, Google, Facebook and Twitter presented a total of 14 examples of veridifed Russian propaganda, that was disguised as a legit social media post during the 2016 election.
Here’s 14 pieces, from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).
All the Russian Facebook Ads Presented to Congress (So Far)
Muslims for Bernie
Buff Bernie Coloring Book
Bill Clinton and Danney Williams
Note: The image in this ad was redacted by the House Intelligence Committee. The post seems to prompt users to share pictures of their children. It’s likely that this image was redacted because it shared pictures of children that were sent to account (but that’s just our best guess).
