We don’t know what the Rock is cooking for 2020 – but it may be a run for president.
According to reporter David Levinthal, a new political committee has been registered with the FEC for a potential bid from Dwayne Johnson – dubbed “Run the Rock 2020.” The group is reportedly not officially tied to the Rock, but could signal the first steps in a serious bid.
According to The Hill, the paperwork was filed by Kenton Tilford under a West Virginia address. Johnson has joked about making a run for the White House since playing a buff version of Obama on Saturday Night Live.
Of course that was thought to be a joke, but in an interview with GQ in May, he spoke about how he would take on Trump’s policies. It wouldn’t be the first time a celebrity put out feelers for a presidential bid as a joke that later turned serious.
“Personally, I feel that if I were president, poise would be important. Leadership would be important. Taking responsibility for everybody. [If I didn’t agree with someone] on something, I wouldn’t shut them out. I would actually include them,” he said.
“The first thing we’d do is we’d come and sit down and we’d talk about it. It’s hard to categorize right now how I think [Trump’s] doing, other than to tell you how I would operate, what I would like to see,” Johnson said.
The Rock also added that he felt that “the majority of, if not all, Americans feel that protection is of huge importance.”
After all, wouldn’t we all feel safer with a president who could probably take down just about every world leader in a wrestling match?
