Republican Ralph Norman has won South Carolina’s special House election to replace Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney in Congress.
The South Carolina 5th Congressional District Special Election has always been a long shot for Democrats, especially as Democrat Archie Parnell was unable to gin up as much national attention as Jon Ossoff, the Democratic candidate for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District. Tonight is Election Night in Georgia as well, but the numbers are still rolling in.
The race between Normand and Parnell was closer than expected though, following a trend in the special elections since Donald Trump’s election — especially in Montana last month. Norman had 52 percent of the vote to Parnell’s 48 percent when the Associated Press called the race with 89 percent of precincts reporting.
Stay tuned, we will also have results from the Georgia Special election as soon as they are available.
