Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker is seeking reelection and Democrats are not going to make it easy. Tony Evers is one of the eighteen Democrats running, and he’s calling out Walker and the Foxconn deal that he and President Trump are touting.
The Foxconn deal is supposed to invest $10 billion to build a factory for LCD production that is expected to bring manufacturing jobs home to Wisconsin – but Evers begs to differ. In his newest radio ad, Evers discusses the not-so-bright sides of the deal.
The radio ad, titled “Foxconned” contends that “the Trump-Walker deal will take Wisconsin taxpayers twenty-five years just to break even.” To put that into perspective, “that means a kid born today could graduate from college by the time we might see a nickel on their return.”
It may take a while for the endeavor to be prosperous, but according to Evers, “Foxconn jobs aren’t even required to be jobs for Wisconsin residents. Contractors that build the facilities aren’t required to be Wisconsin contractors.” But that’s not all, “the deal would exempt Foxconn from critical environmental protections.” This is no surprise considering the President past eagerness to boast about the number of jobs he has created rather than preserve the environment.
Evers makes the suggestion that maybe they should invest their money in schools instead.
