The self-styled “largest and most effective pro-Trump super PAC” is out with a short ad that uses a portion of the audiobook edition of former President Barack Obama’s 1995 memoir, “Dreams From My Father.”
The ad from Great America Alliance then tells black voters in Georgia to “Take Obama’s advice: Don’t sell out for a #ChristmasTurkey” – and vote Republican in today’s special election between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican Karen Handel.
In “Dreams from My Father,” former president Obama recalls a story of when he had a conversation with his barber, Smitty, as a kid in Chicago. Noting the political tension in Chicago in 1983 when the city elected its first black mayor, Harold Washington, Smitty went on explaining why many African Americans felt betrayed by the Democratic Party at the time.
Obama uses the quote directly, and reads it out loud in audiobook version – and so Great American PAC lifted the audiobook recording to use in this ad.
