Tom Steyer, the California billionaire who had been plowing money into saving the climate, now has launched a $10 million campaign to impeach President Donald Trump.
In a one-minute TV ad, Steyer lays out his case: "He's brought us to the brink of nuclear war, obstructed justice at the FBI, and, in direct violation of the Constitution, taken money from foreign governments and threatened the shutdown of news organizations that report the truth."
The initial images juxtapose Trump with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, and show a nuclear missile launch, putting the greatest emphasis on the risk of nuclear annihilation.
Facing the camera, Steyer declares, "If that isn't a case for impeaching and removing a dangerous president, then what has our government become?"
Since the public doesn't have the power to vote to impeach, Steyer explains his strategy: an "effort to raise our voices together and demand that elected officials take a stand on impeachment." Of course he is also building a pretty hefty mailing list too.
His final argument is less about the Constitution and more about warning we all might die soon: "people in Congress and his own Administration know that this president is a clear and present danger, who is mentally unstable and armed with nuclear weapons. And they do nothing."
As impeachment would require a majority vote from the Republican-led House, and conviction would need two-thirds of the Republican-led Senate, chances are Steyer is going to lose this battle too.

Tom Steyer Inserts Himself Into Effort to Impeach Donald Trump
Notably, Tom Steyer makes sure people know that Tom Steyer is backing this effort, saying, "I'm Tom Steyer, and like you, I'm a citizen who knows it's up to us to do something." By name-dropping himself, Steyer stirs speculation that the impeachment campaign may be a precursor to a personal campaign for high office.Since the public doesn't have the power to vote to impeach, Steyer explains his strategy: an "effort to raise our voices together and demand that elected officials take a stand on impeachment." Trump Takes The Bait, As Usual
President Trump, incapable of refusing bait, fired back at Steyer, calling him "wacky & totally unhinged" on Twitter, and worse, someone who "never wins elections" – a reference to the losing Democratic campaigns to which he's donated. As impeachment would require a majority vote from the Republican-led House, and conviction would need two-thirds of the Republican-led Senate, chances are Steyer is going to lose this battle too.
