After the Parkland massacre, support for gun control is spiking in polls, and Democrats have begun embracing gun control in their ads. But Republican candidate for Senate in Indiana, Todd Rokita, is showing conservative primary voters he's not budging a whit.
Depicting a nation in chaos, the narrator continues, "They riot in our streets and attack our police."
"Welfare dependency, open borders, amnesty, it must stop," he says, as the associated text is splayed over photos of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Indiana's Democratic incumbent Sen. Joe Donnelly.
He ends on an anti-immigrant note, declaring, "it's time to build a wall, make English our official language and put America first."
The defiant tone is a stark reminder that the reaction to Parkland is markedly different in red and blue parts of the country. While liberals are more focused on gun control than at any point since Sandy Hook, conservative politicians are signaling to NRA supporters that they won't bend in their support for gun rights, and won't stop antagonizing "liberal elites."
Todd Rokita Wages Culture War
The ad "FIGHT BACK" is 30 seconds of pure culture war. "The liberal elites disrespect our flag and the sacrifices of our soldiers," claims the narrator over images of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton at the 2016 Democratic convention, and Colin Kaepernick taking a knee, followed by an aerial shot of soldiers' graves.Depicting a nation in chaos, the narrator continues, "They riot in our streets and attack our police."

After Parkland, Rokita Still Brags About His NRA A-Rating
Then Rokita appears to announce he's running "to fight the politically correct politicians. I'm pro-life, pro-gun and pro-Trump." Over footage of Rokita shooting a long gun, the screen assures he's "NRA A-RATED."He ends on an anti-immigrant note, declaring, "it's time to build a wall, make English our official language and put America first."
