For our latest edition of Weird Wednesday, this ad is pretty far out… and just a warning, if you suffer from vertigo you might want to skip viewing this spot.
In case haven’t heard of him, Ron Planche is a Canadian politician who ran for a seat in Canadian Parliament from Niagara Falls in 2015.
When Planche rolled out this ad, he told Canadian news sites that even he “was taken aback” by the ad’s choppy style. But apparently, the first cut of the ad was “so boring,” he and his director, Nathan Chamberland, decided they had to go a different route.
Chamberland said, “I was going for artsy and different with this one, while Ron stayed true and honest in his speech delivery.”
Is “artsy” or “Avant-garde” ever a good idea for political ads? History tells us the answer is almost always “no.”
Is this the opening theme of the Twilight Zone?
The father and pioneer of jump cuts, French filmmaker Jean-Luc Goddard, might be rolling in his grave at this political ad spoof.
But it seems Planche got the last laugh… he won the Liberal nomination for Niagara Falls, and will run with team Trudeau in October.

Canadian humor site The Syrup Trap got a hold of the ad, and edited their own version:Is this the opening theme of the Twilight Zone?
