Texas Sen. Ted Cruz won the Wisconsin Primary last night. He shut out Republican frontrunner Donald Trump by 13% – further complicating the New York billionaire’s path to locking in the party’s nomination.
Cruz is by no means friendly with the Republican establishment – Sen. Lindsey Graham once said that choosing between him and Trump was like choosing between “being shot or poisoned.” But apparently the #NeverTrump movement is so strong that GOP elites are getting behind Cruz nonetheless.
Former 2016 presidential candidates Rick Perry, Lindsey Graham, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Scott Walker all make an appearance in this ad. They are joined by Utah Sen. Mike Lee and conservative talk show host Mark Levin who are both long-time buddies of Cruz.
But despite voters’ disdain for the “establishment” this cycle, Cruz uses this roster of elite Republicans to his advantage – claiming that this is proof that his campaign is “uniting the Republican Party.”
Trump is still beating Cruz by 226 delegates and if polling is any indication he is expected to decimate Cruz in New York on April 19.
But there are still 882 delegates up for grabs and the #NeverTrump movement is getting stronger everyday. So we will see if Republicans opt for the poison, or take the gunshot.
