The attack ads for down ballot Democratic candidates seem to be writing themselves once their Republican opponents say they will support Donald Trump if he is the nominee. Take the most controversial clips of Donald Trump and interlace them with your Republican opponent saying they will support the bombastic billionaire – and you’ve got yourself an attack ad. Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth is the latest Democrat playing the Trump card. Her latest ad was cut after Senator Mark Kirk told NBC Chicago that he “certainly would” support Trump if he won the Republican presidential nomination. The end of the spot asks, “Trump and Kirk – making America great?” The Kirk campaign called the ad a “smokescreen to distract attention from Duckworth’s proposed policy for Syrian refugees” – one of Kirk’s main attacks against Duckworth.
