After Representative Lois Capps announced she was not seeking reelection, California’s 24th congressional district election quickly became a hotly contested race.
Although typically a safe-Democratic seat, the House Majority PAC doesn’t want to take any chances this cycle, so the group launched two attack ads against Republican candidate State Assemblymember Katcho Achadjian – one in English and one in Spanish.
The English ad “Zero” attacks Achadjian’s past positions on women’s health issues including limiting access to abortion and birth control and voting against maternity care coverage.
The spot contrasts Achadjian with the super PAC’s favorite candidate, Democratic Santa Barbara County Supervisor Salud Carbajal. The narrator claims, “Salud Carbajal will protect a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions.”
“Familias,” the Spanish-language ad, connects Achadjian’s immigration policies with Donald Trump’s. The ad attacks Achadjian for blaming California’s budget deficit on undocumented immigrants and for calling to ship illegal immigrants out of the country.
The ad asks, “Sound familiar?” with news clips of Trump saying, “You’re going to have a deportation force.”
Voters will head to the polls on June 7 to determine which two candidates will face each other in November.
House Majority PAC will air “Zero” and “Familias” as part of a $300,000 ad buy that will run ahead of the June 7 primary.
