The New York Democratic Primary is just days away, but Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are already looking ahead to California – the state with by far the most Democratic delegates up for grabs.
Clinton is visiting California today for a star-studded fundraiser in San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighborhood – which is hosted by George and Amal Clooney.
Meanwhile Sanders' will be airing his first California-focused ad, titled, "$27." The ad will debut on KGO-TV in San Francisco tonight, and it's deliberately timed to coincide with Clinton’s fundraiser, which has a minimum ticket price in the tens of thousands of dollars, according to the Los Angeles Times. The same ad will air in Los Angeles tomorrow night, when Clinton holds her fundraiser there.
Fortunately for Sanders, he can probably expect a decent haul from the Golden Gate City tonight – he already receives more donations from San Francisco’s Mission District than from any other zip code in the country, except his hometown of Burlington, Vermont. And fourth place on that list is San Francisco’s Castro district, which neighbors the Mission.
California’s 475 Democratic delegates are up for grabs on June 7. With a prize that size, expect to see a lot more political ads in the Golden State sin the months to come.
