North Carolina Senator Richard Burr, who is seeking reelection in 2016, aired a television political ad, titled “Protect,” which warns voters about the “real” threat of terrorism while bolstering his time as Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
This ad came just in time for his announcement that he plans to
introduce legislation that would criminalize a company’s refusal to aid decryption efforts as part of a governmental investigation – a
shot aimed directly at Apple, which is currently facing what could be a long legal battle over that very issue.
Richard Burr Wants to Make a “Stronger America”
As images of people riding the New York subway flash across the screen, a narrator eerily says, “Obama said ISIS was contained, but they continue to attack at will.”
As Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Burr asserts he can solve “failed” policies of the administration by “fighting for the intelligence and tools needed to protect America."
The 30-second ad will go up on broadcast stations in Raleigh and Greensboro, backed by a $300,000 ad buy, according to the Burr campaign.
An earlier version of this article said the Burr campaign made a $100,000 ad buy for this ad. It is actually $300,000.
