One Nation, an Republican super PAC, hit New Hampshire Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Maggie Hassan on the heroin crisis last week, but the liberal Senate Majority PAC is striking back.
The first half of the group’s latest ad “Sad” addresses Hassan’s “bipartisan leadership” focusing on prevention, treatment and recovery. The ad shifts into attacking Hassan’s Republican opponent Kelly Ayotte and her “special interest backers” for “doing anything” to help Ayotte win.
“Sad” showcases quotes from New Hampshire publications and leaders calling One Nation’s attack ad “a trash ad” and “a vile smear.”
The narrator ends the ad by calling it “sad” that the group exploited the “tragedy of human addiction.”
Senate Majority PAC spokesman Shripal Shah commented, “The facts are clear: Governor Hassan has led bipartisan efforts to address the state’s heroin epidemic with a plan to expand access to treatment and provide more support for local law enforcement.”
In response, One Nation spokesman Ian Prior commented on Senate Majority PAC’s response attack ad, "Gov. Hassan's failures to combat the heroin issue are well documented. Misleading political attack ads trying to cover up those failures are simply not going to work."
The New Hampshire Senate race is neck-and-neck – and outside spending is pouring in to help in the fight. Total outside spending against Ayotte and in support of Hassan has reached about $4 million, while nearly $15 million has been spent in support of Ayotte and against Hassan.
As the outside groups continue to wage an ad war, check out the other political ads that are airing in this race.
