Republican Senator Mark Kirk is fighting a tough reelection campaign in which he is currently in a statistical tie with Democrat Tammy Duckworth.
In an attempt to give Kirk an edge in the polls, his campaign is capitalizing on Duckworth’s upcoming court date – as she faces a civil lawsuit from her time at the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
The lawsuit alleges that Duckworth retaliated against two state employees after they filed complaints against the Anna Veterans’ Home’s acting director.
The spot repeats “ethics violations” multiple times while the screen blurs for dramatic effect. Clips of different news reporters explaining the lawsuit flash on the screen as the spot ends: “May 12th Duckworth heads to court.”
With Republicans in danger of losing Senate seats this election cycle, Duckworth’s litigation has given the GOP more ammo in their fight to keep the Illinois U.S. Senate election.
Kirk and Duckworth will face each other in the general election on November 8, 2016.
