Rep. Alan Grayson – who is probably best known for his shoddy Sopranos-style political ad – lost his primary race Tuesday night. Now it looks like his political career may be sleepin' with the fishes.
Grayson was trounced in the Florida Senate Democratic primary, after his ex-wife charged him with repeated domestic abuse. Grayson's current wife also lost her bid to replace him in the House.
So as the Graysons prepare to depart Washington, the Huffington Post assembled a proper sendoff: "Alan Grayson in Living Color," a video supercut of the bombastic Grayson's greatest moments.
"What do you have a higher opinion of? Congress or dog poop?" Grayson says on the House floor, an apt beginning for a Grayson retrospective. The left-wing firebrand reveled in violating decorum. We see him call an opponent a "teabagger," and call Sarah Palin, "an inspiration to quitters all over the country ... to every student in school who cheats." He says to "the Christian Right" on the House floor, "what about your own pact with the Devil?"
We also see the now infamous clip that helped sink his Senate bid, in which he got into a physical altercation with a reporter who was asked about the domestic abuse allegations, futilely insisting that "you pushed me!" In another clip, he tells a local reporter when asked about his ex-wife, "Gold diggers gotta dig,"
The retrospective ends with one of Grayson's goofiest political ads, a parody of "The Sopranos" in which a commuter drives around Orlando and sings about alleged corruption by his Republican opponent Daniel Webster. Grayson lost that race too.
We'll miss him in the halls of Congress. Or not.
