While most congressional candidates tout how they have passed budgets or will fight to avoid a government shutdown, Salud Carbajal is facing the realities of conflict in Congress to propose a different type of leadership.
In his ad “Leadership,” the Democratic candidate for California’s 24th congressional district explains that he “sees things differently” than most politicians. The spot explains how Carbajal, who served as Santa Barbara’s County Supervisor, gave up part of his paycheck in order to stand in solidarity with county employees who were furloughed in 2008.
“Everybody was trying to make ends meet,” explains a somber Carbajal. “I thought that if we are asking our employees to sacrifice, that we do the same thing.”
Young gun Republican Justin Fareed is also proving to be a viable threat to Carbajal’s campaign, raising more money than any other candidate in the last quarter alone.
