Robert Blaha, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Colorado, launched a political ad calling for a 47-year ban that would restrict government officials from becoming lobbyists.
Instead of images of top Democrats flashing across the screen, the spot features bobble head dolls of Colorado Senator Michael Bennet, President Barack Obama, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other key politicians.
As they bobble, the narrator threatens, “And if you’re caught lobbying you’re going to go to prison—and not some white collar Club Med. No, we’re talking Rikers Island—10 years, hard time.”
However, Senator Bennet, Blaha’s opponent if he secures the Republican nomination, called for a lifetime lobbying ban for members of Congress during his 2010 campaign. He introduced a lobbying reform bill to formalize this ban.
The Colorado Independent critiques Blaha for trying to “jiu jitsu” one of Bennet’s signature issues.
