The Republican National Committee is starting 2015 determined to create its own narrative about the nascent Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign with this first Hillary attack ad, and flip the 2012 script on which party's presidential nominee is "out of touch" with the middle class.
"Do you need a speaker for your upcoming event, and are tired of easy-going low-hassle keynote lecturers? Look no further than Hillary Rodham Clinton ... But with the agreement to hire Mrs. Clinton, you are now legally obligated to provide a spread of hummus, lemon wedges, room temperature sparkling and still water, sliced fruit, crudités, diet ginger ale, tea, carafe of warm water, and a coffee cup with a saucer."
In case viewers didn't get the message, the video ends with a photo of Hillary laughing with President Obama and Vice-President Biden in the Oval Office, and the text: "Hillary is out of touch. Keep her out of the White House."
The Republican political consultants surely recognize that they are unlikely to produce a Horatio Alger story for their nominee, but it certainly can't hurt their prospects to blur distinctions of which nominee best represents the struggles of the middle class.
Caricaturing Hillary In The First Hillary Attack Ad
"Poor Hillary" stars RNC operative Mike Mears, last seen pretending to be HealthCare.gov, as a farcical informercial pitchman selling Hillary Clinton speaking gigs. Playing off of news reports about the high speaking fees and perks requested by her when speaking at colleges, Mears mocks her as a diva:"Do you need a speaker for your upcoming event, and are tired of easy-going low-hassle keynote lecturers? Look no further than Hillary Rodham Clinton ... But with the agreement to hire Mrs. Clinton, you are now legally obligated to provide a spread of hummus, lemon wedges, room temperature sparkling and still water, sliced fruit, crudités, diet ginger ale, tea, carafe of warm water, and a coffee cup with a saucer."
Republicans Won't Let Go Of "Dead Broke" Hillary
In a final dig at her earlier comment that she and Bill Clinton left the White House "dead broke," Mears says, "If you call within the next 20 minutes, we'll throw in the required charter jet. After all, Mrs. Clinton says she's dead broke!"In case viewers didn't get the message, the video ends with a photo of Hillary laughing with President Obama and Vice-President Biden in the Oval Office, and the text: "Hillary is out of touch. Keep her out of the White House."
