One of the lasting stories of the 2016 election is the transformation taking place in the Republican Party – and the intraparty war brewing as a result. On one hand, Donald Trump has revitalized the GOP and has been broadly successful at joining together his party’s populist base with the Republican establishment – though the relationship between the two remains volatile.
On the other hand, the same populist uprising that has brought so many now voters into the Party also means that many traditional Republicans – those who are more interested in reducing the size of government than building a border wall with Mexico – simply don’t have a place in their party anymore.
So where are those used-to-be-GOPers supposed to go if their party doesn’t want them anymore?
Well believe it or not, there are some Republicans that don’t believe that Hillary Clinton is a literal criminal who should be put in prison – in fact, some of them seem to think she would make a great president, since they are voting for her.
Perhaps in an effort to normalize Clinton and make her palatable to some moderate conservatives, we hear from some of those former Republicans who are changing sides to Clinton in a three ad series released by the Clinton campaign.
