If the bear is indeed lurking, at least we know Ronald Reagan is ready to bear responsibility and take care of it. The “Bear” ad from the 1984 presidential election took a minimalistic approach - it didn’t even mention Reagan’s opponent Walter Mondale or the Soviet Union - but it was still very effective. Though this ambiguous ad left viewers scratching their heads, even we could understand the simple message of “President Reagan: Prepared for Peace.” Political consultants and advertising experts praised the ad for its soothing tone. It was narrated by Hal Riney, the mastermind behind “Morning in America.” Damn, that guy knew how to soothe.
Did You Know? If the bear really was in the woods, we wouldn’t have had to worry. Lifetime NRA member Ronald Reagan would’ve put the bear in his crosshairs.
Just FYI, the bear is supposed to represent the Soviet Union.
