While trailing in the polls Rand Paul is still mixing it up in the ad wars – using his latest spot to hit frontrunner Donald Trump for his long friendship with Bill and Hillary Clinton.
According to Paul's new attack ad, Trump is a “fake” conservative and has been playing on the Democrat's team for years.
Using clips and quotes from old Trump interviews; Rand Paul’s media consultants use Trump’s liberal words against him, including his support for universal healthcare and Hillary Clinton - two topics that most conservatives loathe.
The words “Donald Trump telling it like it is” is followed by a famous Bill Clinton clip, in which the former president says, “It depends upon what the meaning of the word is… is.”
After the first debate, many pundits are saying Paul's campaign is stalling. This ad tries to build up a head of steam by positioning Paul against frontrunner Trump - hoping to ride the Trump-hate train to get a boost in the polls. The latest 2016 Republican presidential nomination poll from Rasmussen shows Paul polling at just 4%.
