Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley has long been considered a shoo-in for a seventh term, but Democrats hope his refusal to hold Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on President Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court Merrick Garland will make him vulnerable.
So Democratic hopeful and former Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge is taking aim at Grassley with a new online ad titled, "Job."
Video of Grassley then appears above the words, "Senator Chuck Grassley just refuses to do it." After some local news footage, we see Grassley say he wants to "put it off for the new president to make a decision."
The ad then raises the specter of President Trump, and quotes Grassley saying Trump would nominate "the right type of people." That is followed by clips of Trump using profanity, as Judge's political consultants trust that "Midwestern Nice" Iowans won't care for Trump's coarseness.
Before Judge squares off with Grassley, she has to win the Democratic primary June 7 and survive a spirited challenge from state Sen. Rob Hogg running to her left. But Judge has money, and the backing of Washington Democrats. Hogg, according to the Des Moines Register, has a "philosophical aversion to soliciting campaign contributions" and only $41,000 in hand as of the end of March, which will hinder his ability to compete with Judge on the air. In turn, Judge's ad also serves to show Democratic voters that she'll have the resources to fight Grassley in the fall.

Patty Judge Mocks Chuck Grassley: "It's in the Job Description."
The ad begins with the camera zooming on the clause in Article II of the Constitution which reads, "by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate." Patty Judge May Win The Air War Against Rob Hogg
The ad's close plays off of Judge's name. Text laid over an image of an Iowa sunrise reads, "Fortunately for Iowa, there's one Judge Chuck Grassley can't ignore." The ad ends with a new slogan for Judge: "A Senator Not Afraid To Do The Job."Before Judge squares off with Grassley, she has to win the Democratic primary June 7 and survive a spirited challenge from state Sen.
