Florida Senator Marco Rubio can’t seem to get a break from attacks on his Senate attendance record. Not only was he chastised during his failed presidential bid, his Republican opponent Carlos Beruff also launched an attack ad blasting Rubio’s contradictory statements around voting.
Now, Democrat Patrick Murphy released “Absent” to illustrate how Florida voters can’t rely on Rubio. The ad starts with the narrator asking, “How can you protect us when you fail to show up for work?”
The 30-second ad focuses on one specific vote that would enact sanctions on Hezbollah – a vote that Rubio failed to cast on November 17, 2015. Regardless of Rubio’s absence, the bill successfully passed.
Rubio’s campaign spokesman Michel Ahrens replied, “Patrick Murphy has never accomplished anything in his life, and now he’s lying about Marco’s strong record of fighting to keep America safe.”
According to the Murphy campaign, “Absent” will run on digital platforms targeting voters across the state of Florida.
