Florida Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Patrick Murphy begins his fall campaign looking to close a small gap with incumbent Sen. Marco Rubio by resurrecting a charge from Rubio's failed presidential bid: his poor attendance record.
With one lonely, confused child still in the pool – and in the shot – the screen reads "MARCO RUBIO Worst Attendance of Any Florida Senator in Nearly 50 Years."
Murphy then speaks to the camera: "But it's not a game when our senator doesn't show up. I'm Patrick Murphy. Solving problems means showing up, showing independence, and working together." As he speaks, text over his shoulder reads, "Patrick Murphy 97% Voting Record"
Concerns about Rubio's attendance and commitment to the Senate contributed to his humiliating home state defeat, ending his presidential hopes. Murphy has to hope the joke hasn't gotten old.
