The National Republican Senatorial Committee released a video on their official webpage showing them trolling Indiana Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly with a mariachi band. Titled “Joe Donnelly gets a special welcome,” people join the band and are holding signs that say “Made in Mexico” with USA crossed out and “Outsource Donnelly out of D.C.”
The practical joke stems from Donnelly allegedly being hypocritical in regards to the End Outsourcing Act – an act that he helped introduce. According to the GOP, Donnelly received between “$15,001 and $50,000 in 2016 from stock holdings in his family business, Stewart Superior Corp., which outsourced manufacturing of its ink pads to Mexico.” Meanwhile, Donnelly said outsourcing is “cynical. It’s wrong. It’s unpatriotic. It’s shameful and it’s un-American.”
But the joke was not entirely well received, sparking some angry comments on Twitter.

Oye @NRSC this is #racist. Do you think that is ok for a bunch of white people to use #Mariachi music as an attack? #WhitePrivilege 🤔 https://t.co/LL9IVQgvnB

NRSC got a mariachi band to play as Donnelly (D-IN) launches re-election bid. If there's a non-racist point to this, please enlighten me https://t.co/ouriIojcrf
