Nikki Haley, the popular Republican governor of South Carolina, announced that she is endorsing Marco Rubio for president. The endorsement comes just days before the state’s primary this Saturday.
In her endorsement video, Haley says, “As the wife of a combat veteran, I know Marco will keep America safe.” This message is likely to resonate with voters in South Carolina – a state with a large constituency of active and retired military personnel.
Haley’s endorsement is expected to give Rubio a positive boost in South Carolina, where he is currently nearly tied for second place with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Donald Trump still holds a commanding first place lead in the state.
Haley is just the latest influential South Carolina Republican to endorse Rubio. He has also received the endorsements of Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Trey Gowdy.
