Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte cannot seem to catch a break. Just days after being singled out by the pro-gun control PAC Americans for Responsible Solutions, Ayotte finds herself the target of yet another attack ad. This time by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).
In the ad, “Family,” the narrator, a daughter who takes care of her aging mother, slams Sen. Ayotte on her support to turn Medicare into a voucher program and to raise the Medicare eligibility age. The ad finishes by accusing Ayotte of preferring to “take care of special interests than New Hampshire families.”
This is not the first time that Sen. Ayotte’s Medicare policies have been criticized.
The Ayotte campaign wasted no time refuting the accusations made against her in a 30-second response. The ad features testimonials by New Hampshire seniors. One man claims “Kelly has always done the right thing for seniors here in New Hampshire,” while another praises Sen. Ayotte for “fighting for seniors and protecting Medicare.”
Despite facing heavy criticism for her support of Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump, Sen. Ayotte did not attend the Republican National Convention arguing that she prefers to focus on issues facing her state.
The upcoming elections in New Hampshire are expected to be close, with the state serving as a swing state in the Presidential race. According to recent polls Ayotte is polling only fractions of a point ahead of challenger Democratic Governor of New Hampshire, Maggie Hassan.
