Ted Strickland, a Democrat who’s running for Senate against incumbent Rob Portman, is hopping on the #NeverTrump bandwagon in his latest campaign ad.
The aptly titled “Portman Has Really Been Good To Me” features several clips of Portman endorsing “The Donald” – as well as Trump personally thanking Portman for his continued support on the campaign trail.
“He endorsed me and he’s been terrific. But Rob Portman has really been good to me and I appreciate it,” said Trump earlier this year at presidential rally in Cincinnati.
The ad also weaves Ohio Governor John Kasich’s hesitation in endorsing the presumptive Republican nominee into its storyline – indicating how one of the most powerful politicians in the state disagrees with Portman’s enthusiastic endorsement.
As of July 1, Portman has polled ahead of Strickland by barely two percentage points – a very narrow lead that could certainly shift in the months ahead. Portman has also consistently outraised Strickland and reportedly had more than $13 million in his war chest at the end of June. Strickland, on the other hand, has powerful endorsement of Bill Clinton – which could certainly play in his favor in light of the upcoming presidential election.
