The narrator isn’t actually Morgan Freeman, but he comes pretty close. This attack ad from B.J. Lawson’s 2010 Congressional campaign in North Carolina was a disaster from start to finish. The Godlike narration garnered more attention than the issues themselves, and Lawson had to pull the ad once people realized it wasn’t actually Freeman’s voice.
Considering Freeman is an avid Democrat, Lawson shouldn’t have been surprised that the actor was too busy with hits like the Dark Knight to do the voiceover for a North Carolina Republican congressional ad. Lawson was surprised though. The firm he hired to produce the ad, LA-based MEI Political, had promised that the actual Morgan Freeman would narrate the ad. But Lawson wasn’t the only politician MEI duped - three other campaigns came forward with complaints of phony Freeman ads produced by MEI.
What’s the moral of this story? There was no Lawson Redemption - he lost the election by 40,000 votes.
Did you know? Morgan Freeman narrated an Obama campaign ad from 2012.
