Conservative Tea Partier Sen. Mike Lee of Utah became the first Senator last week to formally endorse Ted Cruz for president.
His endorsement video is part of a six figure ad buy the Cruz campaign made in Utah and Arizona, two states that will hold Republican primaries Tuesday March 22.
In the video, Lee espouses all of Cruz’s top Tea Party bona fides – standing up to a “growing, overbearing federal government,” repealing Obamacare, defending the Second Amendment and defending “religious liberty.”
The most recent polls in the Beehive State showed Cruz leading Republicans by only one point – but right on his heels was Marco Rubio, who has dropped out of the race since the poll was conducted. It’s unclear what portion of his voters will flock to Cruz, or be drawn to Donald Trump.
Did you know: Ted Cruz wrote in his 2015 memoir A Time for Truth that he considered Mike Lee to be one of his best friends in the Senate, ever since the two bonded at a 2010 D.C. lawyers’ convention. Isn’t that adorable?
