Actor and environmental activist Mark Ruffalo, joined director Matthew Cooke to direct and star in a 4-minute video in support of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. “Bernie Sanders comes to us in a moment of crisis of credibility in the American political system,” Ruffalo says. “People feel like they have given up on the system and that is exactly what the bad guys want us to do. They want us to give up on the system.” On Saturday, Sanders supporters staged a protest outside of the CNN Los Angeles office against what they consider unequal and inadequate reporting on Sanders. In an interview with Variety, Ruffalo said that his video was in response to a “virtual media blackout of [Sanders] since the start of his campaign.” Ruffalo and Cooke run through various polls that demonstrate the low levels of political participation is in the U.S., before re-dubbing Sanders’ “political revolution” as a “reLOVElution” (presumably not to be confused with Ron Paul’s “rEVOLution”). The ad comes just one day before Ruffalo’s home state of Wisconsin will hold its Democratic primary, where Sanders has held a slight edge over his opponent Hillary Clinton. We will see if this last minute celebrity bump will solidify that lead.
