Illinois Republican Senator Mark Kirk is not relenting on attacking his Democratic opponent Tammy Duckworth on the lawsuit she’s currently embroiled in. Duckworth is accused of retaliating against two employees after they filed complaints against the Anna Veterans’ Home’s acting director.
Kirk’s latest attack ad alleges that six veterans died while they were on a waitlist for admission to a veterans' home "under Duckworth’s watch." "Waitlists were manipulated. The result? Six veterans died while waiting for care," the ad's narrator says. "No wonder Tammy Duckworth is going to court."
“I learned in Iraq that I could take a hit and keep on going,” Duckworth starts off in a new ad released only two hours after Kirk's. The Democratic candidate tries to brush off Kirk’s “false attacks” and shifts the focus on why she’s running for U.S. Senate – including passing fair trade deals, promoting college affordability and expanding Social Security.
A recent poll from Emerson College shows Kirk and Duckworth still neck-and-neck. Duckworth has a 2-point advantage – 41% to 39%.
