Libre Initiative, a Koch brothers-backed nonprofit that targets Hispanic voters, launched digital ads attacking Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto for not supporting Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) in Nevada.
The ad mentions how the American Federation for Children found that 71% of Latinos in Nevada support ESAs – but claims that Cortez Masto is only siding with her “special interest friends.” The narrator then attacks Cortez Masto for “favoring her political friends instead of Nevada’s students.”
Last month, after a campaign event, Cortez Masto explained that ESAs take “money away from public schools” and prefers investments like a tax package approved by Gov. Brian Sandoval last year.
However, the Libre Initiative is claiming that Cortez Masto is denying “educational opportunity” to Latino families.
