At this point the political parties, labor unions and activists have tried just about everything to drive voter turnout. Other than putting Barack Obama on the ballot, which is no longer an option, very few strategies have worked to lift voter participation.
So, the creative team at the IJ review asked themselves – why not try hot girls and puppies?
After all, the IJ Review already used guns and bacon in an ad for Ted Cruz, Rand Paul had a fire-breathing eagle… is anything really off-limits in political advertising these days?
In fact, other than Kendall Jenner’s shirt, you wouldn’t even know this was a Rock The Vote ad until the very last slide. The whole clip is just a minute of Kendall Jenner playing with puppies, kissing their noses, and being all around adorable (the puppies we mean).
Once the puppies lured us in, we found there was more behind the story. These clips are behind the scenes from an IJ Review video Jenner did recapping the history of suffragettes.
Watch it below:
Kendall Jenner has more than 37 million followers on Instagram and more than 12 million on Twitter, so using puppies and a famous Jenner to encourage Millenials to vote might not be such wild idea.
Getting celebrities to Rock the Vote is no new phenomenon: Madonna draped herself in an American flag in a 1990 ad, Will Ferrell offered to do anything (and we mean anything) to get you to vote in 2012 – Joan Jett and Lil’ John literally rocked out the vote – albeit within different genres.
