Jason Kander, a Democrat running for U.S. Senate in Missouri, is sharing his personal story about his time in Afghanistan in the campaign’s first TV political ad – set to hit Missouri TVs today.
"There are a lot of men and women serving our country overseas who never ask what's in it for them. They do their jobs in the toughest, hardest, most dangerous places on earth," Kander narrates. "I know because I was there alongside many of them."
Kander was a Captain in the Missouri Army National Guard and Officer Candidate School Instructor at Fort Leonard Wood. He served in Afghanistan as a military intelligence officer.
In the 60-second ad, he continues to explicate that too many Washington politicians that “put their party, their pay raises and their political careers ahead of doing what's right for our country” – an attack that all but names his Republican opponent Sen. Roy Blunt.
The campaign didn’t specify how long this ad will air, or how large the ad buy is.
End Citizens United PAC, a group dedicated to limiting the use of outside money in politics, launched an ad at the same time as Kander to contrast the different types of service of the two candidates.
“While Jason Kander was serving his country in Afghanistan, Roy Blunt was serving his own interests in Congress,” said Tiffany Muller, End Citizens United Executive Director, in a press release.
End Citizens United PAC has dropped $770,000 on this ad, which will air on broadcast and cable in St. Louis and Kansas City markets until September 27.
