In 2014, the White House and an ad agency Mekanism teamed up to create It’s On Us – a campaign to combat sexual assault on college campuses.
The group is sending out a new message after the results of the 2016 presidential election: it’s “more important than ever” to intervene or do something to prevent sexual assault.
"We're putting a misogynistic bully into the highest job in the land, so we feel that it's more important than ever to have zero tolerance for sexual assault and for the country to not be bystanders," said Jason Harris, CEO of Mekanism. "It's scary times, but it makes the campaign more important and relevant than ever."
The 30-second PSA features It’s On Us ambassadors and heroes who have stepped in to stop sexual assault. For example, Carl-Fredrik Arndt and Peter Jonsson, Swedish grad students, intervened when they saw an unconscious young woman being sexually assaulted by Brock Turner at Stanford University in January 2015.
We also see Monica Kenyon, Sonia Urlich and Marla Saltzer in the PSA who intervened when they saw a man drug his date's wine earlier this year in a restaurant in Santa Monica, CA.
According to It’s On Us, one in five women and one in 16 men will be sexually assaulted before they leave college. Since the launch of the campaign, It’s On Us has had 380,000 people pledge to help stop sexual assault.
