Hillary Clinton shifted from campaigning in New Hampshire today to visit the city of Flint, Michigan – the majority African American city currently reeling from a water crisis that is threatening the health of an entire city.
The water in Flint, Michigan became contaminated with dangerous levels of lead two years ago, after the state’s Republican administration decided to switch the city’s water supply as a cost cutting measure. The city stopped sharing a water source with Detroit and began using the Flint River. The water was so contaminated with corrosive materials that it stripped lead off of the city’s water pipes and leaked it into the drinking water.
Democrats have made the Flint water crisis a 2016 campaign issue, since the debacle has become emblematic of the failures of the Republican administration in the state.
Stay tuned as we continue to cover the tragedy in Flint – and its impact on the 2016 campaign trail.
