The 2014 race for Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat is quickly becoming the one to watch. Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, the state’s current Secretary of State, is challenging 29-year incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell, a Republican in the notable red state – and the race is on. As of August 1, 2013, Grimes was ahead by 1 point in the polls.
In this ad above, Grimes starts off sweetly introducing her campaign and her grandmothers. Tugging at the heart strings and making us laugh, Grimes then pivots to talking about key issues and openly attacking the sitting Senator. “This Part’s For You Senator McConnell. Your campaign wants to play silly games about where I am and where I stand… Well, I’m right here in Kentucky Senator, where I’ll be holding you accountable.” We here at Agree, along with the rest of America, will be eager to see what happens next.
Grimes shows strength by looking straight camera — keeping us attentive and locked into her gaze as if we were sitting across the table from her.
After watching “The Campaign Begins”, Grimes appears to have a lot more strength and dignity than McConnell’s poor excuse of an attack ad, “What Rhymes with Grimes?” Although we can admit McConnell’s ad is pretty funny, it’s still a lame ad. Sorry McConnell, you won’t be able to sing and dance through this election.
Grandma Elsie concludes in the ad above, “What rhymes with Mitch?” Smart pivot with “It’s time to switch!” Go grandma!
Did you know? Senator Mitch McConnell is running for reelection to a sixth term and prior to this campaign, Grimes was elected as Kentucky’s Secretary of State in 2012, winning with 60% of the vote. She beat the incumbent in that race, so who’s to say she can’t do it again in 2014?
The battle for Kentucky’s U.S. Senate seat is hotly contested. Don’t worry – Agree to See and don’t skip a beat. Check back in and stay updated throughout the race.
