Entrepreneur Donald Trump has set his eyes on the White House as the next addition to his collection of luxury hotels, golf courses, and residential high-rises – by announcing his campaign for president today. Trump has considered a presidential bid for years, including the 1988, 2000, 2004 and 2012 presidential elections.
This election cycle he’s jumping into the crowded field as the 12th Republican candidate, competing against frontrunner Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Lindsay Graham, Carly Fiorina, Ben Carson and others.
Trump has been actively engaging his large social media fan base leading up to his campaign, even releasing the following video on Instagram:
In a recent Iowa Republican Presidential Caucus poll, Trump is polling at 5%, tied in 7th place with fellow political outsider Ben Carson. He’ll need to make the cut-off for the first GOP presidential debate hosted by Fox News on August 6th if he wants to be considered an early contender. But slim chances that average voters are ready to have a president who represents – not just the 1% -- but the .1% of Americans.
