With no Republican primary rivals left to stand in his way, Donald Trump easily swept all five Republican contests last night. But at the same time, he faced harsh criticism from his party’s leaders for racially disparaging the federal judge presiding over the Trump University.
After a day full of Republican leaders lambasting Trump in the media, the off-the-cuff billionaire decided to straighten up a bit and read an uncharacteristically refined thank you speech – directly from a teleprompter.
Consequently, Trump’s reliance on a teleprompter left political pundits confused – and Correct the Record, a pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC, captured their reactions in this web video.
MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell commented, “I thought it was such an awkward blend to hear Donald Trump in this scripted moment tonight, but without a real message.”
“The entire point of Donald Trump is to not be on script,” observed co-anchor of MSNBC’s Morning Joe Willie Geist.
Matthew Dowd, political analyst for ABC News, suggested, “It was almost as if he was like a circus lion who had been tranquilized, because he had bit too many people."
They should be careful though – an off script (or off the handle) Trump has generally been more dangerous than a caged one. And in the past, Trump isn’t able to stay in his cage for too long.

Teleprompter Trump
Trump has said in the past how using a teleprompter is not presidential and boring – even tweeting out multiple times about Hillary Clinton’s teleprompter use.
