Judicial Crisis Network, a conservative 501(c)(4), is spending $500,000 to run post-election TV and digital ads in Washington, D.C., New York City and South Florida.
The ad thanks President-elect Donald Trump for promising to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court with a conservative justice. “American people want justices that are strong and independent to protect our Constitution and make sure its meaning is preserved. And because of Donald Trump, the next Supreme Court justice will do just that," the narrator explains.
Trump has pledged to nominate a judge “very much in the mold” of the Justice Antonin Scalia. He also released a list of names during the campaign, but has not followed up on that since winning the election, other than assuring Sean Hannity that he would make an announcement “pretty soon.”
Carrie Severino, JCN’s chief counsel and policy director, claims the group is not running ads because it fears that Trump will back away from his proposed list. Instead, she argues that the group is simply trying to convey how significant the vacancy on the court is.
