David Warnock, a wealthy businessman and Democratic candidate for mayor of Baltimore, released “This Old Truck” – a biographical political ad that highlights how the candidate arrived in Baltimore 33 years ago in a 1983 Chevy pickup truck “full of student loan debt.”
Warnock told the Baltimore Sun, “The student loans are paid off, but I still have the pickup truck.”
In his TV spot, he drives home the point that Baltimore is a city of opportunity – where Warnock was able to start a business. Now he wants to give the city of Baltimore an opportunity “to turn around.” Warnock’s political consultants and ad makers clearly figure that in this era of anger voter anger at the wealthiest 1%, it doesn’t hurt Warnock to show he might not have an average Joe’s paycheck, but he did hold on to that average Joe’s car.
Maryland’s Democratic primary will be held on April 26, so stay tuned to I Agree to See as we cover the latest political ads from the mayoral race.
