After the Republican Party had many issues getting their candidates onto the ballot for the Colorado U.S. Senate race, Tea Party backed candidate Darryl Glenn emerged from the crowd and won the Republican nomination at the last minute.
Glenn knocked out the competition with 37.7% of the vote – with Jack Graham and Robert Blaha trailing him at 24.5% and 16.4% respectively.
The Air Force veteran and county commissioner from El Paso had little name ID heading into the race. According to FEC filings, his campaign spent the least amount of money compared to his Republican rivals. But last minute endorsements from Senator Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin gave him a boost at the end of the primary campaign.
“People are frustrated. They are angry,” Glenn told supporters. “They are tired of politicians saying one thing and getting elected to office and completely forgetting about the people that they left behind. I want you to understand that we get it.”
Glenn will face Democratic Colorado Senator Michael Bennet in the November general election. Since Bennet didn’t have any opponents heading into yesterday’s primary, he already has a leg up on Glenn.
