What brings House Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senator Bernie Sanders together? No, it’s not policy decisions… It’s something more entertaining than the typical political banter – reading mean tweets!
This trend of reading mean tweets began on Jimmy Kimmel Live when he brought in various celebrities to read hater tweets posted by various Twitter users. Recently, President Barack Obama made an appearance on the late night show, showing that it’s ok to not take yourself too seriously.
Will the humorous appeal increase Congress’s approval ratings? Probably not, but it’s still funny to see Members of Congress let their hair down – or un-brushed in Senator Bernie Sander’s case:
Speaker John Boehner’s tweets are pretty hilarious, calling him the “weeper of the house” and saying he “looks like an angry oompa loompa…presum[ing] he bribes his constituents with promises of chocolate and gobstoppers.” If Boehner actually did that, we would all be moving to Ohio’s 8th Congressional District. We have to hand it to Boehner for being a good sport.
One user said Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi looked like “a tub of orange sherbet.” Pelosi jokingly responds, “Was I standing too close to John Boehner?”
Another user tells Pelosi to “find a new job as a bed pan cleaner or a store clerk you suck as a senator.” Maybe they should have done their homework before tweeting that one, but don’t worry, Pelosi let’s @glutz1947 know she is not a Senator.
As the mean tweet trend continues, it will be interesting to see who else joins the bandwagon and shows us their humorous side. Make sure to stay tuned to I Agree to See so you can stay up to date.
