Democratic incumbent Senator Michael Bennet has been gearing up for what is certain to be a rigorous re-election campaign as he faces Republican Daryl Glenn heading into the General Election.
Bennet’s latest online ad, “He Kept Coming Back” is a powerful yet uplifting testimony from a victim of the 2013 Jamestown, CO floods. Footage of Bennet working with the community amidst the devastation highlights his hands-on approach – helping residents get the attention and assistance they needed from financial institutions.
“I don’t think you move into the mountains without being somewhat resilient,” Jamestown resident Julie Constantine claims. She goes on to describe the community as well as Bennet’s consistent outreach following the flooding. Bennet is certainly looking to showcase that same grit and loyalty to the people of Colorado going into November, as Colorado’s Senate seat is one of the most vulnerable held by Democrats this year.
In addition to funding, Bennet has benefited from the support of prominent Democrats, such as Vice President Joe Biden who appeared at a Bennet fundraising event in April. Glenn’s campaign has relied much more on grassroots support, which helped him trounce conservative favorite Tim Neville at the state’s April convention.
However, Bennet is projected to have a considerable demographic advantage over Glenn with the support of Latino voters who make up about 15 percent of the electorate, according to Pew Research Center.
Throughout the 2016 election cycle, Latinos have been a target for unsettling and degrading remarks dished out by the party’s front-runner for President, Donald Trump. Glenn will have to work hard to distance himself from those sentiments in November.

An Astounding Financial Advantage
Since the beginning of 2015, Bennet has raised an impressive $11 million with $5.7 million in cash on hand. By contrast, Glenn, who has relied heavily on Conservative PAC contributions, has only $50,000 cash on hand. Bennet has enjoyed the benefit of running unopposed in the June 28 primary – a race that has exhausted the campaign funds of a much larger pool of Colorado Republicans. In addition to funding, Bennet has benefited from the support of prominent Democrats, such as Vice President Joe Biden who appeared at a Bennet fundraising event in April.
