We are all well aware of President Donald Trump’s affinity to attack random cultural figures on Twitter – but a few weeks ago when Trump attacked MSNBC Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, many agreed – including House Speaker Paul Ryan – that he had gone too far.
But that dark pinpoint in presidential history gave Late Show hose Stephen Colbert an idea: why not memorialize Trump’s great Twitter outbursts in a ‘Trump Attacked Me on Twitter’ Hall of Fame.
The latest inductee is fellow comedian, late night host and Trump criticizer John Oliver.
Back during the 2016 presidential election cycle, after Oliver released a few viral skits in a row attacking Donald Trump, the soon-to-be president took to Twitter and said, “John Oliver had his people call to ask me to be on his very boring and low rated show, I said no thanks. Waste of time and energy.”
However, Oliver maintains – as he has mentioned on his own show many times – that it is simply “a lie” that anyone from his show contacted Trump to be on (Oliver does not have an interview show).
“It was very odd to be on the receiving end of a lie that confident from someone who is now president… however weird it is to say that out loud.”
