One of Hillary Clinton’s largest super PACs, Priorities USA, kicked off a whopping $35 million anti-Donald Trump ad campaign this week – directed mainly at Hispanic voters.
The 30-second spot, “A Racist Statement,” opens with Trump’s recent interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper. Trump said last week that the Latino judge presiding over the Trump University fraud case had a “conflict of interest,” because “he’s a Mexican.” Tapper asked if that was not the literal definition of racism – Trump of course said it was not.
We then see news clips of the various Republican Party leaders and pundits who all quickly repudiated Trump’s remarks. The montage – which includes Lindsey Graham and Paul Ryan, among others – has become a familiar one for attack ads this week.
Another 30-second spot features stock clips of Hispanic families, workers and students, while we hear the alternating voices of Clinton and Trump. We first hear Clinton talking about building “a nation of dreamers,” before we are rudely awakened with Trump vowing to build a “deportation force.”
There are also two 15-second pre-roll versions of this ad – they both use the same stock clips, but one ad features only Clinton’s voice, the other only Trump’s.
The $35 million staked out for this ad campaign is just a small part of Priorities USA’s campaign launch. The PAC also kicked off a $90 million T.V. ad campaign that will run through the end of the election in November. The ads will air in the battleground states of Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Nevada, Virginia and New Hampshire.
